Post Rock Art

No area of the world has used a single rock formation so extensively for fencing. Limestone rock was formed from layers of sediment deposits in the waters that once covered this region of the world millions of years ago during the Cretaceous era. Fence posts were made from this Greenhorn limestone rock layer found only in north-central Kansas. A typical fence post weighed 350-400 pounds. Early pioneers also used limestone rock to build homes, barns, city buildings and places of worship.

These ornamental fence posts were crafted from actual fence posts quarried by settlers between 1870 and 1920. Approximately fifteen to twenty inches in height, they weigh between fifteen and thirty pounds.

Historical art decorations start at $100
